Auslan Day: Mail Exchange Hotel Leads The Way in Providing Opportunity for All

On Auslan Day, we would like to thank Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia News for highlighting Emad’s story and the importance of creating inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued and supported. As a deaf employee, Emad faced significant communication barriers in his profession until the senior management at Mail Exchange Hotel took the initiative to learn and teach Auslan- Australian Sign Language to all staff members to communicate with him. This improved Emad’s work experience and fostered a more inclusive workplace culture at the venue.

Kimberley Malcolm, General Manager of Member Experience and Compliance says, “workplaces should reflect the community they serve. The team at The Mail Exchange Hotel are leading the way, demonstrating all walks of life are not only welcome but valued.”

Let’s learn from Emad’s story and strive to create workplaces that accommodate diverse communication needs. Whether it’s through learning sign language, providing captioning or other assistive technologies, or simply being mindful of different communication styles, we can all play a part in making our workplaces more accessible and welcoming for everyone.
