Bulletin 24: 170th Annual General Meeting of the Australian Hotels Association (Victoria)

The 170th Annual General Meeting of the Australian Hotels Association (Victoria) was held Tuesday whereby the elections for Executive Committee office bearers were conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission.

In accordance with the provisions of the AHA (Vic) constitution, all positions of the Executive Committee were made vacant and elections were held. The results are as follows:

Honorary Treasurer Paul Stocks (Kelly’s Hotel, Cranbourne)
Honorary Secretary David Curry (ALH Group)

Executive Member Matthew Nikakis (Rosstown Hotel, Carnegie and Racecourse Hotel, Malvern East)

Prior to the meeting Peter Burnett AM advised he would be retiring as President following 21 years in this role (a feature article on Peter’s considerable contribution as President of the Association will be printed in the October/November edition of Hotel Today).

Incoming President David Canny, a second-generation publican and his wife Dani operate the Red Lion Hotel in Ballarat and more recently, with their nephew Pat Glenane, the Montague Hotel in South Melbourne.

David was first elected a Councillor of AHA in 1998 and in 2008 was elected a member of the Executive Board. In 2013 he was elected as the Victorian delegate to the National Board of the AHA. David was elected as our Country Vice President in 2012 and is a Life Member of the Association. Recently as chair of our PubTAB committee, in challenging times David has demonstrated great leadership in driving best advantage for his colleagues. David is also the Chairman of AHA (Vic)’s regional outreach program, Pubs, Pots & Profits.
