The AHA and TAA National office response to the recent Fair Work Commission announcement on transitional provisions for penalty rates is available here.
A summary of the penalty rates transitional decision is as follows:
- The full reduction in public holiday penalty rate commences on 1 July 2017 (225% for permanent (full time and part time) employees and 250% for casual employees)
- Changes to the Sunday penalty rate for permanent (full time and part time) employees will be phased in from the current 175%:
- 1 July 2017 – 170%
- 1 July 2018 – 160%
- 1 July 2019 – 150%
There will not be any reduction of penalty rates for casual employees on a Sunday.
- Draft variations (the proposed new clauses) giving effect to these changes will be published shortly. Parties have seven days to comment.
